Budget Lawn Renovation:
- If your Couch, Kikuyu or Zoysia lawn is looking a bit too long and thatchy, then best to cut the lawn back to soil over 2-3 weekends (around November, when grass recovers quickly) and with lawn fertilising and heavy watering the grass will bounce back within a couple of weeks
- This scalping is, in effect, similar but cheap version of scarifying. You can do this with couch, kikuyu and zoysia as they have rhizomes (underground runners), but DO NOT do this with Buffalo grass
- From then on make sure to mow as per our Cheat Sheet and mow regularly (as per Cheat Sheet) at the new lower height of around 15-20mm high
- The lawn will be thatch free and look a lot better
