Best Lawn In Australia

Here are some pics of the Best Lawn In Australia!

Like all sporting fields on the Mainland of Australia, the playing surface grass is usually couch grass (Cynodon dactylon) or kikuyu grass (Pennisetum clandestinum).

In the case of The SCG (Sydney Cricket Ground), the summer playing surface is Couch Grass and going into winter the Ground Staff over sow the couch grass with Rye Grass (Lolium multiflorum) to provide the rich dark green colour and thickness for the winter NRL, AFL and A-League games.

In the local footy fields around suburbia, the playing surfaces of couch or kikuyu usually get pretty hammered by the end of winter and are looking pretty sad.

As couch and kikuyu have both above ground runners (Stolons) and, in particular, below ground runners (Rhizomes), they are able to make a quick recovery (with the help of a good Lawn Care program) going into Spring.

Note: With the above logic it is clear why Buffalo Grass (Stenotaphrum secundatum), with only Stolons, is not favoured for use as a sports field turf grass.
